Concentrate and WEL Networks power up New Zealand’s first instant solar approval system

Written by Concentrate | October 14, 2025

Concentrate is proud to partner with WEL Networks on a major milestone in New Zealand's renewable energy journey. Using HubSpot, our team designed and delivered a groundbreaking, fully automated platform that transforms the connection process for solar and battery systems, helping WEL Networks dramatically speed up approvals and improve the customer experience.

This project created New Zealand's first fully automated approval system for Distributed Generation (DG) applications of ≤10kW. What once took up to a month can now deliver results in just five minutes for most residential systems.

Built on HubSpot CRM platform, WEL’s new solution integrates seamlessly with their core systems, providing a sophisticated digital engagement platform that benefits both customers and the WEL team.

"We’ve redesigned the entire process with one goal in mind: get out of the way and let Kiwis produce and store their own power," said Garth Dibley, Chief Executive of WEL Networks. "This is all about making solar and batteries simpler and more affordable for everyone."

The Concentrate team worked closely with WEL to deliver a HubSpot CRM, Service Hub and website solution that not only simplifies and accelerates the application process, but also helps WEL manage documentation efficiently, combining sophistication with simplicity.

A key to success of the project has being able to connect the customer-facing HubSpot system with WEL Network’s backend systems via a Mulesoft middleware platform.

This project demonstrates how a forward-thinking utility can leverage modern technology to simplify processes and accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

"We are incredibly proud of the entire Concentrate team for delivering this groundbreaking solution," said Owen Scott, Director at Concentrate. "Partnering with WEL Networks has been a pleasure. They are a truly innovative Kiwi utility, using technology to delight customers and drive real results."

WEL Networks is now the first electricity distributor in New Zealand to offer this streamlined service, available to all customers and accredited installers across Hamilton and the wider Waikato region.

The initiative underlines how community-owned network companies can lead in innovation while supporting New Zealand’s renewable-energy transition, without compromising safety or reliability.
